Emma Vohs of Ridge View shared medalist honors as the Raptors finished sixth at the Western Valley Conference golf meet in Holstein last week. Vohs tied with Avaree Miller of OABCIG, as both girls fired scores of 45. Beth Mentzer of Ridge View shot a 55, while Addison Voge and Kierstin Volkert shot identical scores of 68. Emma Mentzer was close behind with a 70 to round out the scoring. The Raptors shot a team score of 236. MVAO-COU won the meet with a score of 211, while Westwood took second place with a 220.
The Ridge View boys track and field squad tied for first place at the Russ Kraai Relays in Holstein last Monday. The Raptors tied with West Monona as both teams scored 157.5 points. MMC-RU tallied 128 points, while Alta-Aurelia scored 79 points.
The Ridge View boys and girls track and field squads hosted the Ridge View Relays last Tuesday in Holstein. The Raptor girls finished in second place out of 15 teams with 123 points. Lawton-Bronson won the meet with 133 points. Ridge View’s Madison Stowater took fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet 10 inches, while Sydney Blackmore cleared a height of 4 feet 6 inches. In the long jump, Gabi Mason captured second place with a leap of 14 feet 5 inches, while Shae Dutler took fourth place with a jump of 14 feet.
The Ridge View girls golf team took part in a triangular in Ida Grove last week against OABCIG and Cherokee. The Raptors posted a team score of 259. OABCIG won the match with a score of 235, while Cherokee posted a 245. Emma Vohs of Ridge View took runner-up honors with a score of 53. Avaree Miller of OABCIG was the medalist with a 52. Other scores for the Raptors were Emma Mentzer with a 65, Beth Mentzer with a 67, Kierstin Volkert with a 74, and Addison Voge with an 82.
The Ridge View boys golf team captured fifth place out of nine teams at a Western Valley Conference golf meet last Monday in Ida Grove. The Raptors finished with a team score of 191, just ten strokes behind second place Kinglsey-Pierson. Leading the way for Ridge View was Aiden Martin with a score of 45, followed closely by Brady Clausen with a 46. Right behind them was Levi Albers with a 48, followed by Cayden Clausen with a 52 and Gavin Vohs with a 53. Ethan Mason fired a 60 to complete the Ridge View scoring.
Ridge View coach Dale Tokheim has 34 athletes out for track this season, including some key returners from last year’s conference championship team, which sent eight events to state. Tokheim talked about some of the athletes missing from last year’s team.
Ridge View girls track coach Angie Kohn has some top athletes coming back this season. Overall, the squad is young, with four seniors, three juniors, twelve sophomores, and eight freshmen. Kohn talked about the strengths of her team.
“I think we will be fairly solid competitors all around,” said Kohn. “We have athletes who can score points for the team in all disciplines. We look to place well in all of these events, with no one event or area being our main strength.”
The Ridge View boys golf squad will be starting their season with some familiar faces. Raptor coach Alex Warnke has some experienced golfers returning in seniors Brady Clausen and Aiden Martin, as well as sophomore Ethan Mason. Warnke is looking at a bigger role for junior Levi Albers, as well as many sophomore and freshman newcomers. The team has a total of 19 golfers out this year.
Ridge View girls golf coach Brian Bode has five golfers ready to improve their game and have some fun this year. The Raptors’ top returning performers are senior Emma Vohs, a first team all-conference selection last season, and junior Beth Mentzer. Looking to replace players gone from last year’s team are sophomore Kierstin Volkert, and freshmen Emma Mentzer and Addison Voge. Bode talked about his team’s strengths and weaknesses.
