In a key Western Valley Conference basketball matchup, the OABCIG boys came out on top of Ridge View 59-26. Both teams entered the contest with 5-1 conference records. The Falcons built a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, but the Raptors rallied to trim the margin to 15-13 at the first quarter break. OABCIG would own the second quarter, however, outscoring Ridge View 13-1 to take a 28-14 lead at halftime. The Falcons extended the lead to 44-21 after three quarters before finishing the game strong to secure the 59-26 victory.
The Ridge View archery team participated in a competition at Lawton. The Raptors finished fourth out of seven teams with a score of 3,152. Leading the way for Ridge View was Jeannie Arthur with a score of 280. She was followed closely by Daynia Werner with a score of 276 and Taylor Hamrick with a score of 275. Caden Biede fired a 268, while Griffin Lukins shot a 264. Ridge View will host a competition on February 1.
The Ridge View girls basketball team improved to 9-3 on the season with a convincing 55-22 defeat of the Storm Lake Tornadoes. A competitive first quarter saw the Raptors take a 15-12 lead after one period of play. Ridge View used a strong second quarter to extend the lead to 28-18 at halftime. The Raptors came out after halftime and dominated the action, outscoring Storm Lake 13-2 in the third quarter to take a 41-20 lead after three periods. The fourth quarter saw more of the same, as Ridge View outscored the Tornadoes 14-2 in the final frame to come away with the 55-22 victory.
The Ridge View girls basketball squad improved to 10-3 on the season with a 49-37 defeat of the Rams of MVAO-COU. The Raptors used a strong first quarter to propel them to victory. Ridge View started the game strong, building a 17-10 lead after one quarter. A competitive second quarter saw the Raptors maintain their lead at 28-21 going into the halftime break. Ridge View extended their lead to 41-30 after three quarters, and finished the game strong to secure the 49-37 win.
The Ridge View wrestling squad took part in dual meet action in Carroll on Tuesday, January 4. The Raptors defeated Audubon 48-21. Clayton Jacobson and Ian Shepherd pinned their opponents, while Noah Shepherd and Logan Pickhinke won by decision. Ridge View also defeated Coon Rapids-Bayard 60-12. Tanner Edwards won by pin for the Raptors. Against Carroll Kuemper, Tatum Shepherd pinned her opponent.
After a competitive first half, the Ridge View girls basketball squad turned it up a notch in the third quarter and took down Kingsley-Pierson with a 59-40 victory. With the win, the Raptor girls remain undefeated in Western Valley Conference play.
Ridge View built a 6-1 lead to start the game, but the Panthers fought back and cut the margin to 6-5 after one quarter. The Raptors pushed the lead to 17-11 in the second quarter, but Kingsley-Pierson trimmed the lead to 19-16 going into the halftime break.
The Ridge View boys wasted little time in taking control of their contest with Westwood on Friday night, opening up with a 20-12 lead after one quarter. The second quarter saw more of the same as the Raptors extended the lead to 38-22 at halftime. A competitive third quarter allowed Ridge View to maintain its lead at 55-38 after three periods. The Raptors would go on a tear in the fourth quarter, scoring 33 points and finishing with the 88-53 victory.
Ridge View head football coach Dale Tokheim has announced that Logan Pickhinke and Ian Shepherd, members of the Ridge View football team, were named to the IFCA (Iowa Football Coaches Association) Academic All-State team. To be considered for this honor, a player must be a senior starter with a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.7 or better at the end of their junior year. The player must also be involved in other extracurricular activities, and be recommended for the award by his head coach.
As of the Christmas break, several basketball players from OABCIG and Ridge View are leading the Western Valley Conference in a variety of statistical categories. In boys basketball, Cade Harriman of Ridge View is leading the conference in scoring with 174 points scored on the season. Beckett DeJean of OABCIG is currently fourth in the conference with 139 points scored.
The Ridge View boys basketball squad came up with another close victory, something they’ve made a habit of doing this year, to improve their record to 6-2. The Raptors traveled to Manson to take on the winless Cougars, who turned out to be better than their record might indicate. Both teams made seven three-pointers, but Ridge View sank 14 free throws, compared to only four free throws for Manson-Northwest Webster.
