The Ridge View softball squad earned an impressive win over a good Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley team last Thursday at Boyden. The Raptors built a 3-1 lead after three innings. Both teams would score a pair of runs in the fourth inning, leaving the score at 5-3. Ridge View then plated a run in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning to grab an 8-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Nighthawks scored a run to trim the lead to 8-5, but could get no closer as the Raptors secured the three-run victory.
On a beautiful summer night in Early, the Ridge View and Newell-Fonda baseball squads were locked in a scoreless, defensive battle after three innings. In the fourth inning, however, the Mustangs broke through for five runs to take a 5-0 lead. They would score three more runs in the fifth inning to expand the lead to 8-0. The Raptors responded with a run of their own to make the score 8-1. Newell-Fonda plated five more runs in the sixth inning, however, to come away with a 13-1 win. Tyhler Kolpin, Tracin Price, and Caden Biede all smacked two hits for Ridge View.
What started as a tight contest turned into a lopsided affair, as Ridge View walloped MVAO-COU 19-4 in the first round of the Western Valley Conference baseball tournament at Moville last Monday. The game was tied at 4-4 in the third inning, when the Raptors exploded for 12 runs in their half of the inning to build a 16-4 lead. Ridge View added three more runs in the fourth inning to complete the 15-run victory. The Raptors’ offensive attack was led by Tyhler Kolpin, who blasted three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs.
Ridge View got home runs from three different players on Wednesday, as they advanced past Westwood in the first round of the Western Valley Conference softball tournament at Galva. The Raptors built an 8-2 lead after six innings, but the Rebels wouldn’t go away quietly, as they scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull within 8-5. That was as close as they would get, however, and Ridge View secured the first round win. The Raptors offensive attack was led by Emma Vohs, who blasted her seventh home run of the season, as well as belting two doubles, and drove in three runs.
The Ridge View softball team, aided by three home runs, blanked Alta-Aurelia 14-0 on the road last Monday. The Raptors built an 8-0 lead after five innings, then exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to complete the 14-0 victory. Ridge View’s offensive attack was led by Emma Vohs, who smashed five hits, including two home runs, and drove in six runs. Faith Freese smacked three hits, while Tatum Shepherd blasted a home run as one of her two hits. Addison Schmidt, Katie Pickhinke, and Beth Mentzer all added hits in the victory.
In the consolation bracket of the conference tournament on Thursday, the Ridge View baseball squad jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning against Lawton-Bronson. The Raptors held a 6-1 lead going into the seventh inning, when the Eagles scored three runs to pull within 6-4. They could get no closer, however, as Ridge View put a stop to the rally and secured the victory. The Raptors were led at the plate by Cael Myrtue, who belted two doubles.
Details are being lined up to support girls wrestling for next year at Ridge View.
Following the official sanctioning of girls wrestling by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union earlier this year, districts across Iowa have been working to get the sport off the ground.
Ridge View’s participation in the sport will see cooperation with Alta-Aurelia.
Formal approval of sharing came during the June 13 school board meeting.
Keagan King was also approved under hirings to serve as assistant girls wrestling coach.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Ridge View baseball team tied the score at 2-2 in the fourth inning, then erupted for ten runs in the fifth inning to end the game early in a 12-2 defeat of Lawton-Bronson at Holstein on Wednesday. The Raptors offense was led by Blake Myrtue and Cameron Spina. Myrtue smacked four hits in four at-bats, while Spina belted three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Tyhler Kolpin, Tracin Price, Cael Myrtue, and Caden Biede all contributed hits in the victory.
The Ridge View baseball team claimed a second straight ten-run victory with a convincing win at Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire on Thursday. The Raptors led only 7-5 after three innings, but kept GTRA scoreless after that, while continuing to plate runs in their half of the late innings. The Ridge View offensive attack was led by Tyhler Kolpin, Gavin Vohs, and Cameron Spina, who all belted three hits including a double. Cael Myrtue smacked two hits, while Tracin Price, Blake Myrtue, and Kellen Jensen all hit safely in the win.
The Ridge View baseball squad fell behind Sioux City West 4-0 after three innings on Saturday. The Raptors plated a run in each of the next three innings, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Wolverines came out on top 9-3. Tracin Price, Cael Myrtue, Gavin Vohs, and Kinnick Jensen all smacked hits for Ridge View, while Myrtue, Kellen Jensen, and Ethan Mason each drove in a run. Price, Vohs, and Kinnick Jensen all crossed home plate in the contest. Tracin Price, Kinnick Jensen, and Ethan Mason all split time on the mound, with each pitcher striking out two batters.
