The Western Valley Conference has released its all-conference basketball honorees. Shae Dutler and Madison Stowater of Ridge View were named first team, while OABCIG’s Krista Sibenaller was named second team. For the boys, Kane Ladwig and Beckett DeJean of OABCIG, as well as Kellen Jensen of Ridge View, were named to the first team. Treyten Kolar and Griffin Diersen of OABCIG, and Kyler Wunschel of Ridge View were named to the second team. The complete list, as wells as final team standings, are as follows:
After a slow start, the Ridge View girls basketball squad fought their way back into the game and eventually overcame Alta-Aurelia in a Class 2A playoff opener. The Raptors fell behind 10-2 to start the game, but cut the lead to 10-5 at the end of the first quarter. A competitive second quarter ended with Ridge View trailing by a slim 23-20 margin at halftime. The Raptors came out after the halftime break and dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 18-8 to grab a 38-31 lead heading into the final period of play.
It was a real dogfight in Holstein last Monday, as the Okoboji Pioneers came to town to take on the host school Ridge View Raptors in a Class 2A District 2 playoff opener. After falling behind 11-3 to start the game, the Raptors clawed their way back to trim the margin to 11-7 after the first quarter. Ridge View outscored Okoboji by four points in the second quarter to tie the game at 23 going into the halftime break. A hard-fought, evenly matched third quarter ended with the Pioneers up by two at 42-40.
Several OABCIG and Ridge View basketball players are among the leaders in the Western Valley Conference in various statistics. In girls’ play, Madison Stowater of Ridge View is the second leading scorer in the conference with 327 points on the season. Alex Schroeder of OABCIG is the leader in steals with 85, while Shae Dutler of Ridge View is second with 76. Krista Sibenaller of OABCIG is the leader in made free throws with 75.
On Senior Night in Holstein, all five seniors took the floor to start the game against Storm Lake St. Mary’s. Tracin Price, Cael Myrtue, Kyler Wunschel, Grant Movall, and Mason Wolf got the Raptors off to a blazing start, building a 13-2 lead after the first quarter. By halftime, Ridge View had pushed the margin to 31-6. The Raptors came out strong in the second half, as the lead swelled to 46-13 heading into the final period. Ridge View coasted to a 61-22 victory from there.
A talented Newell-Fonda team, ranked second in the state, traveled to Holstein on Friday and bested the home team Raptors. The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, then pushed the margin to 35-17 at halftime. Newell-Fonda put together a strong third quarter to take a 52-26 lead into the final period of play, and cruised to the 63-37 win from there.
A big second quarter by East Sac was the main difference in the game for Ridge View on Thursday night. A competitive first quarter ended with East Sac holding a slight 14-11 lead. The Raiders dominated the second quarter action, however, outscoring the Raptors 17-9 to build a 31-20 halftime lead. A hard-fought third quarter saw East Sac take a 43-30 lead into the final period of play. The Raiders finished the game strong to come away with the 63-46 victory.
The Ridge View girls basketball squad got off to a fast start and never looked back, defeating Storm Lake St. Mary’s 44-31 last Monday in Holstein. The Raptors broke out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter, then maintained the margin at 25-15 going into the halftime break. Ridge View pushed the lead to 36-21 going into the final period, then cruised to the 13-point victory.
In the consolation round of the Western Valley Conference tournament, Ridge View handed Siouxland Christian a 16-point loss. It was the Eagles who got off to a good start, taking an 11-9 lead after one quarter of play. The Raptors clawed their way back in the second quarter, grabbing a 26-23 halftime lead. Ridge View expanded the margin to 42-33 heading into the final period, then closed the game strong to come away with the 61-45 victory.

It was the Spartans who looked like the better team early in the game, as they built a 9-3 lead after one quarter. The Raptors clawed their way back in the second quarter, trimming the lead to 17-14 at the halftime break. By the end of the third quarter, Ridge View had tied the game at 31. The Raptors dominated the action in the final period to earn a 46-39 victory.
