The Raptors volleyball squad was at it again last Tuesday in Holstein, this time with the Rams of MVAO-COU coming out on the wrong end of a three-game sweep. Ridge View took control early, winning game one 25-12 and game two 25-13. The Rams put up a bit of a tussle in game three, but ultimately fell 25-17.
Something had to give on Friday night in Holstein, when the 2-0 Ridge View football squad hosted Cherokee, who also sported a record of 2-0. The Braves came into the contest having scored 101 total points in their first two games, including a 51-23 win over MMC-RU and a 50-0 blowout of Sioux Central. The Raptors, meanwhile, had given up only one touchdown in their first two games, defeating Akron-Westfield 7-6 and Unity Christian 14-0.
The Raptor boys and girls cross country teams participated in the Tim Thomas Classic at Holstein on Saturday. In girls results, Ridge View’s Addy Tesch placed 13th out of 99 runners with a time of 21:48.13. Clara Todd finished 30th in a time of 23:32.12. Tiegan Vohs clocked in at 27:12.01, while teammate Regan Ruble turned in a time of 27:59.56. Kinzie Hagen and Tess Pacza crossed the finish line with times of 28:54.36 and 34:34.80, respectively.
The Ridge View volleyball squad put on an impressive display again on Tuesday night in Holstein. The Raptors dispatched of Woodbury Central in three games, winning 25-10, 25-13, and 25-13. In game one, Ridge View jumped out to an 8-1 lead and never looked back, steadily increasing the advantage until they had a 15-point victory. Game two featured more of the same, as the Raptors built a 14-3 lead and coasted to a 12-point victory. The Wildcats kept battling, staking a 6-4 lead in game three. But after a quick timeout, Ridge View righted the ship and went on to another 25-13 victory.
In a battle of state-ranked teams, the Ridge View volleyball squad put a beatdown on South Central Calhoun, winning 25-8, 25-12, and 25-15. The Raptors came into the contest ranked #7 in the IGHSAU preseason ratings, while the Titans were ranked 15th. Ridge View wasted little time in taking control of the contest, jumping out to a 9-1 lead in game one before coasting to victory. It was more of the same in game two, as the Raptors built an 8-1 advantage to start the contest, and cruised to a comfortable win.
What a start to the 2023 season for the Ridge View football squad! The Raptors traveled to Akron-Westfield for their season opener and came home victorious, edging the Westerners 7-6 in a defensive battle.
The contest stayed scoreless for most of the first half. Then, with seconds remaining until halftime, Ridge View quarterback Blake Myrtue found Asher Endrulat in the endzone for a 12-yard touchdown pass, and the Raptors took a 7-0 lead into the break.
The Ridge View cross country squads braved the heat to participate in the Deb Hankens Cross Country Meet in Cherokee on Thursday. In girls results, Jaycie Vohs captured 2nd place out of 29 runners with a time of 22:24.01. Teammate Addy Tesch was close behind in 5th place with a time of 23:15.13. Regan Ruble finished 12th in a time of 26:00.65. Kinzie Hagen turned in a time of 30:28.05, while Xaria Rojas clocked in at 31:29.39. Molly Reisz and Tess Pacza were close behind with times of 35:05.11 and 35:27.74.
Ridge View football co-head coach Brian Bode listed the Raptors’ returning starters from last year’s team, which sported a record of 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the district. Returning starters include OL - Cayden Clausen (All district last year), OL - Kody Jacobson, WR - Asher Endrulat, WR - Isaac Goettsch, DL - Cayden Clausen, DB - Zach Kolpin, DB - Ethan Mason, LB - Asher Endrulat, LB - Gavin Vohs (who will also play running back), and LB - Austin Wood (who will play some offensive line this year too.
The Ridge View volleyball team enters the 2023 season at #7 in Iowa’s Class 2A preseason rankings. The Raptors, who finished with a record of 30-8 last season, return a talented group of players from that squad. Ridge View did lose some fine seniors to graduation in Kiara Dutler, Beth Mentzer, Chloe Gottschalk and Shania Graybill.

Raptors Cross Country coach Katie Tesch has a strong group of runners back for the 2023 season. Tesch, who is assisted by coach Chance Downs, has returning letterwinners on the girls team in seniors Kinzie Hagen, Tess Pacza, Molly Reiss, Madison Stowater, and Jaycie Vohs, junior Xaria Rojas, and sophomore Addy Tesch.
Returning letterwinners for the boys are seniors Adrian Altena and Matthew Forristal, junior Brody Bisenius, and sophomores Odin Hanson and Tristan Werner.
