Josh Jensen has recently started in his new position as the Holstein Parks and Rec Director. A big part of his job involves running the show at the Lohff-Schumann Memorial Community Center. Jensen described some of his duties as the new director.
Area communities have set times for Trick-or-Treating, for next Tuesday, Oct. 31.

On Tuesday, Oct. 31, Holstein Halloween events include a free hot dog meal and Halloween activity at Cobblestone from 4-6:30 p.m.; a group photo at Douglas School House at 5 p.m.; a Pumpkin Parade in uptown Holstein from 5-6 p.m.; Trunk-or-Treat on 2nd Street from 5-6 p.m.; Haunted Hallway Trick-or-Treating at Good Samaritan from 6-8 p.m.; and community Trick-or-Treating from 6-8 p.m.
Anne Andresen notified this paper of the tremendous sight at Ted Thoreson’s place the night of the tractor pull at the Ida County Fair. Andresen says they spotted the smoke and her and her husband Jerry went to explore when they discovered Ted Thoreson’s house in a full blaze of fire. Kelby Wulf called it in and then called Thoreson as he was driving home from the fair. Thoreson could not believe it when Wulf said to him, “Ted, your house is on fire!”
A school issue will be on the ballot for Ridge View voters in the Schaller-Crestland side of the district.
The Schaller-Crestland Community School District has an issue in front of voters in Ida, Sac and Buena Vista counties for levying $2.70 per thousand dollar up to $4.05 on taxable property’s assessed value.
That is on the ballot as Schaller Crestland Public Measure - ST.
Also on the ballot will be a bond issue for up to $15,750,000.
Pastor Tyler Parson, minister at CrossRidge Evangelical Free Church, which is currently gathering in Holstein, sat down for a visit about the church, as well as his personal journey to the ministry. I’m sure he’s heard all the jokes, but I had to ask him about the coincidence of a person named Parson becoming a parson.
“Yeah,” he laughed, “maybe it was meant to be. A lot of people just call me PT (Pastor Tyler).”
Tyler gave a brief history of his life before becoming pastor of the Holstein church.
Halloween Cookie Decorating at Stubbs Memorial Library on Oct. 19. Children chose from five different spooky shapes and could decorate two for themselves.
