A back-to-back accomplishment for Ridge View youth has seen a student from the
school named to Girls State Secretary of Agriculture for two years in a row.
Ridge View’s Nora Pickhinke was named to state office with as Secretary of
Agriculture for the 78th American Legion Auxiliary Hawkeye Girls State.
Abigail Else, also of Ridge View, earned the seat in 2023, making Ridge View one
of a select group to have a student fill in for the same high position in consecutive
years.

Douglas Center School experiences upgrade

HOLSTEIN - The Douglas Center School is waiting for the finishing touches of an upgrade to the historic
site.
The exterior of the Douglas Center School is noticeably improved in recent weeks.
Painting, new entrance and new planters were part of the work.
Originally from outside of town, the old school was moved into Holstein and has been a familiar sight,
though with some paint peeling in recent years.
“It was getting to be in disrepair,” said Holstein Mayor Kathy Breyfogle.
