Building a new park: Workers from McCormick Lawncare & Landscaping in Alta are laying the foundation for a new Community Park at the corner of Main and 1st Street in Holstein. The lot was purchased by the City of Holstein. Plans for the design include an inviting gathering space for visitors and residents. Quyntyn Johnson, is the senior vice president of operations at the Travel Center, which is a franchise of TA. You can see the new signage on the travel center in Holstein. Johnson is originally from Chicago, but they are based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. They have several locations encompassing convenience stories and truck stops. When asked what brought them here, Johnson replied,

In July of 1998, Wade Harriman was appointed Sheriff of Ida County. Now, 25 years later, he is still going strong as the leader of law enforcement in the county. Harriman shared a brief history of how he came to hold Ida County law enforcement’s top position.
Jo Puhrmann, owner of MoJo’s Antique Barn in Cherokee, is living out her dream. She has long had a love of antiques, and now has her own store to buy and sell them, along with other unique items. Puhrmann shared some details about her business.
Ridge View High School educator Justin Kinney likes to have a positive impact on kids’ lives. He enjoys seeing them grow as students and athletes, and achieve success. Kinney explained his duties at the school.
“I teach Outdoor Education, Fitness, Health, and Physical Education,” he stated. “I also currently coach football and archery.”
Kinney’s entire teaching career has been spent at Ridge View.
“I did my student teaching here in the spring of 2011,” he said. “I was offered a job during that time, and I have been at Ridge View ever since.”

The Galva Fire Department hosted a steak fry at their annual stag on Monday, Aug. 7 at the fire station, which drew a large number of participants.

“The Enchanted Bookshop”: Local youth performed a play entitled “The Enchanted Bookshop” on Friday night, at the Rosemary Clausen Center for Performing Arts in Holstein. The play was directed by Joyce Galvin, and was the culmination of last week’s annual theatre camp, hosted by the Holstein Community Theatre.
