A special election on Sept. 9 will allow voters in the Galva-Holstein school district to maintain an important revenue source for the school. The election will ask voters to renew a funding stream known as SAVE (Secure an Advanced Vision for Education).
School superintendent Adam Bisenius clarified some details about the election.
As of Aug. 18, Vollmar Motors in Holstein has been renamed Total Motors.
“This way, it lines up closer with the store in Le Mars so everything flows together,” said Dylan Taylor of Total Motors.
Total Motors purchased Vollmar Motors in November 2021.
What had been the Vollmar Super Service Station was renamed Vollmar Motors in 1951.
Having the business under one name will simplify billing and interactions with vendors, Taylor said.
Sunshine & Flora, owned by Christina Kjar Hanson, will have a three-day fall open house on Aug. 28, 29 and 30.
“Customers can come in and see all the new fall decor,” Hanson said. “I have a lot of it out, and I’ll be putting some out throughout the week.”
Along with a show of all the new arrivals, Hanson will offer giveaways.
“When you make a purchase, you can sign up and be entered in a giveaway for after the open house is over,” she said.
With the start of a new school year, it will soon be time for area 4th grade classes to take their annual trips to the country school at Moorehead Park. The 4th graders will get the opportunity to experience a day of class at the Grant Center, just as if they were in country school.
Stubbs Memorial Library in Holstein celebrated 75 years in the community on Friday, Aug. 15, with an ice cream social.
Dozens of people came and went during the 90 minutes of the event.
Information about the history of the library was presented on a screen for visitors to view.
DDM Vending, of Battle Creek, donated the soft-serve ice cream for the celebration.
