The Rosemary Clausen Center for the Performing Arts was host to a Veterans Day program last Tuesday.
The Holstein American Legion Honor Guard advanced the colors, presenting the United States flag and American Legion flag. The Ridge View High School Select Choir, under the direction of Kris Kistenmacher, sang the National Anthem.
Public Works Director Scott Neimeier is departing.
Holstein City Council met Nov. 10 with consideration of Neimeier’s resignation.
Also up for consideration were farmland leases.
Drawing particular interest was land in the East Ridge Second Addition, planned for where the soccer field will go and the unsold lots located on Benning Drive.
“Going to the soccer field, how will they get to it?” asked Mayor Kathy Breyfogle.
The Galva elementary school hosted a Veterans Day program on Monday, Nov. 10. The Kindergarten Class of 2038 kicked things off with a “March of the Wee Americans.” The Galva American Legion then presented the Advancement of the Colors. The kindergarten then invited everyone to join them in saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
A joint session of Galva-Holstein and Schaller-Crestland school boards has seen bond issuance approval.
During the Nov. 10 meeting, approval was given for a resolution in favor of proposed issuing for roughly $6.25 million in school infrastructure sales, services and use bonds.
Superintendent Adam Bisenius briefed the board about the PPEL notes as well as SAVE bond notes.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors discussed courthouse landscaping work as renovation work nears completion.
“We do have a couple of bids for landscaping,” said Auditor Kristy Gilbert.
Nelson Landscaping and Bengford Landscaping have submitted bids for the work with Nelson bidding $60,030 and Bengford bidding $60,808 with another bid for back hill work for $13,000 as a separate bid from Bengford.
Holstein’s Mike Johnson with 191 and Steve Tiefenthaler with 251 won the two open at-large council seats.
Galva-Holstein voters picked Tyler Vohs with 327 votes for an at-large school board seat against Reuben DeLaO with 95 votes, Jeff Witzke with 380 votes for District 1, Jamie Whitmer with 370 votes for District 2 and Matthew Wittrock with 344 votes for District 5.
“Quilts of Valor” were presented to four veterans during the Holstein American Legion annual steak fry on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Family members of the veterans made the actual presentations.
Jonathan Friedrichsen, grandson of recipient Don Friedrichsen, conducted the presentation.
Jonathan noted the first Quilt of Valor was made in 2003 by a quilter named Catherine Roberts to honor her son who was deployed in Iraq.
Local 4-H’ers received recognition on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the annual Ida County 4-H awards program at Lohff-Schumann Community Center in Holstein.
4-H rookies were recognized for completing their first year of membership include: Henley Collins, Jacob Dannull, Caleb Friedrichsen, Greta Friedrichsen, Lane Friedrichsen, Tucker Greenwald, Bentley Groves, Aleece Hoffman, Addyson Melby, Jaxson Melby, Ellie Spaulding, and Parker Walsh.
The Ridge View music and theater departments put on a production of “A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop” at the Rosemary Clausen Center for Performing Arts on Friday and Saturday nights last weekend.
The Ridge View Fall Musical was co-directed by Kris Kistenmacher and Mary Oakley-McAreavy.
The production is a musical by Mark Beymer and John Jacobson.
The story, set in the 1950s, follows a group of teenagers who are disappointed when the local radio station stops playing rock and roll.
