Switching over to new software is taking some work, but the City of Holstein looks for some big things coming up.
During its Dec. 9 meeting, the Holstein City Council heard about the conversion process.
Manually entering date right now is making for extra work, but the payoff should come soon.
“So, it is a little bit of a time-consuming process,” said Administrator Tammy Nuckolls.
Lots of shops were open in Holstein on Sunday for the Hometown Holiday Pajama Jamboree.
The businesses were open from 1 to 4 p.m. for extra Christmas shopping hours.
Customers and business owners were encouraged to shop in their pajamas to complete the experience.
Temperatures on Sunday hovered around 5°, so not everyone complied.
Plenty of sunshine made the day feel a bit warmer – and many shoppers showed up at businesses around town.
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, has announced her Small Business of the Week as Holstein Manufacturing of Ida County.
Throughout the 119th Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.
Staff members from the Ida County Courier and Holstein Advance were the guest speakers at Thursday’s Holstein Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Chamber welcomed newspaper staff as they presented on promotion.
A Good Ad versus a Bad Ad was Seuntjens’ primary focus as she briefed Chamber on how to engage in promotion.
Seuntjens is an award-winning designer who has received multiple recognitions.
Rebecca Burns with Ida County Public Health briefed the board on Horn Memorial Hospital’s announcement it was closing down home health and hospice services.
Burns said Friday, Dec. 12, would be the last day for the service.
“And there’s actually been nobody in the office the last two weeks,” said Burns. “The patients have been moved to other agencies.”
It’s a move that is causing some concern for Burns.
Ridge View saw a solid showing at the Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association competition Thursday and Friday. Results included:

Holstein’s 2025 Christmas party took place on Dec. 6 in several places around town.
Stubbs Memorial library invited kids to join a holiday storytime with stories, cookies and free books.
The Lohff-Schumann “Cookies, Cocoa & Coffee for Claus” fundraiser took place at the old city hall building.
Santa flew in to greet kids at the Holstein Legion Hall, where Holstein Kiwanis served lunch.
Holstein is now home to a new option for individuals who would like to visit town but are looking for increased space, accommodations, and amenities.
Loft 59, located at 528 South Main Street, opened last week.
“My goal was to create a place for Northwest Iowa families to come home to; an alternative to other area lodging, particularly for larger groups,” said owner Lisa Ducommun.
The Ida County Republicans presented a “Candidate Forum” on Monday evening, Nov. 24 at Cobblestone Inn & Suites in Holstein. The event featured four Republican candidates for Governor of Iowa, as well as five candidates for Congress in Iowa’s 4th congressional district. The current representative in District 4, Randy Feenstra, is campaigning for the Iowa governorship.
