The crowd in Alta got their money’s worth on Thursday night, as Ridge View bested Alta-Aurelia 56-54. Trailing by a point with six seconds remaining, sophomore Jayna Aschinger drained a three-pointer to give the Raptors a two-point lead. The Ridge View defense then kept the Warriors from getting a shot off, as the Raptors celebrated a nail-biting victory.
The Ridge View boys basketball team made the trek to Alta on Thursday night to take on the Warriors of Alta-Aurelia.
The Raptors got off to a fast start, building a 20-8 lead after one quarter of play. Ridge View put together another strong showing in the second quarter, and headed to the halftime break with a commanding 40-15 advantage.
The Ridge View wrestling squad hosted a quadrangular meet in Holstein last week. The Raptors dominated Sioux City Heelan (69-12), before coming up just short against Alta-Aurelia (40-36) and West Sioux-Hawarden (52-21). Ridge View 69, Sioux City Heelan 12
The Ridge View girls basketball team opened the season in fine fashion last week, defeating the visitors from MMCRU 47-39 in their home gym at Holstein.
The contest was close for most of the night, as the visiting Royals clung to a one-point lead of 11-10 after the first quarter.
Head coach Chance Downs and the Ridge View wrestling squad are ready for another season of taking down the competition. Coach Downs shared what to expect from Raptor “rasslin” this season.
“The 2024-2025 season saw the departure of several senior members,” he explained, “who have contributed significantly over the past four years. A large underclassman group has the potential to solidify a complete lineup, and fill the holes from last year.
The Ridge View girls wrestling squad traveled to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge last week to participate in the “Triton Clash” competition. The Raptors took on Audubon, GTRA (Graettinger), Vinton-Shellsburg, Council Bluffs Lewis Central, and Manson-Northwest Webster.
In the Audubon match, Ridge View wrestlers Lauren Siegner (110 lbs), Tegan Robertson (120 lbs), and Addisyn Pritchard (125 lbs) each pinned their opponents.
The Raptor girls wrestling squad won third place out of 20 teams, at the Ridge View Invitational tournament in Holstein on Saturday.
Ridge View’s Tegan Robertson captured first place in the 120-lb division. Lauren Siegner won third place in the 110-lb division, and Eden Ferrusca took third place in the 115-lb class.
The Raptors’ Addisyn Pritchard won fourth place at 125 lbs, while Kazlynn Brown took fourth place in the 135-lb division.
The Ridge View girls basketball team is looking forward to another fun season on the court. The Raptors said goodbye to last year’s seniors, Sydney Blackmore and Mya Henningson, but do return several starters from a season ago.
Coach Brian Bode has returning starters in guards Chloe Murphy, Jayna Aschinger, and Reese Hawthorne, post player Alyssa Biede, and guard/forward Zoey Aschinger.
The Ridge View boys basketball squad had quite a season last year, going 8-0 in the Western Valley Conference and 21-2 overall. The Raptors lost seniors Kellen Jensen, Carson Harriman, Jack Todd, and Kyle Burk to graduation, but the cupboard certainly isn’t bare for coach Alex Warnke.
Coach April Palmer and the Ridge View archery team are hoping for another fun and successful season. The Raptors have some talented archers back from last season, as well as some younger kids with a lot of potential.
