The Ridge View football team earned an impressive district win on Friday night at Hinton, rallying to defeat the Blackhawks 23-14.
Hinton, the defending district champs, came into the contest fresh off an impressive 14-point win over Tri-Center. Following a scoreless first quarter, the Blackhawks struck first with four minutes until half, on a 16-yard touchdown pass. Hinton took a 7-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Ridge View and OABCIG volleyball squads put on a real show last week in Correctionville, as they squared off in a triangular hosted by River Valley. The two Western Valley Conference foes found themselves in a real barn-burner, which went the full five games to determine a winner.
The Ridge View volleyball team made the trek to Sloan last week to take on the Rebels of Westwood. The host team Rebels won the first game 25-16, but the Raptors fought back in game two, claiming a 25-20 victory.
Westwood came out on top in the pivotal third game, edging Ridge View 25-22. The Rebels sealed the win in game four, again edging the Raptors by a 25-22 score, to claim a 3-1 victory in the match.
The Ridge View cross country teams headed north to Sibley last week, to compete in the Sibley-Ocheyedan Invitational.
The Raptors’ Addy Tesch won the gold medal in the girls’ race, finishing in first place out of 62 runners with a time of 20:38.69. Addy crossed the finish line well ahead of the second place finisher, Hayden Berkland of Alta-Aurelia in 21:29.82.
The Cherokee football squad showed why they’re one of the top-ranked Class 2A teams in the state of Iowa, as they upended Ridge View 44-7 on Friday night.
The Raptors made the trek north to Cherokee, hoping to repeat the success of the previous Friday’s 28-6 win. The home team Braves had other ideas in mind, however, scoring an early touchdown for a 7-0 lead. Cherokee then recovered an onside kick and punched the ball in the end zone again for a 14-0 advantage after one quarter.
