Coach Monica Brandhorst and the Ridge View volleyball squad are rarin’ to go again this year. The Raptors, who finished 19-18 overall and 6-3 in the Western Valley Conference last season, return a pair of starters from that team. Middle hitters Claire Wandrey (2nd team all-conference) and Naunika Crum (Honorable mention) are back to lead the Ridge View attack.
“Claire had 101 kills and 62 blocks,” stated coach Brandhorst, “while Naunika had 90 kills and 47 blocks.”
The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) has released its All-District teams for the 2025 season.
In the Class 2A Northwest District, Ridge View junior Blake Myrtue was selected as a First-Team utility player. Myrtue had a batting average of .500, and was part of the Raptor pitching rotation.
The Ridge View baseball team wrapped up the regular season in style, rolling past Newell-Fonda to the tune of 14-2, on Thursday in Fonda.
The Raptors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and scored again in the third and fourth innings for a 3-0 advantage. Ridge View then plated a pair of runs in the fifth to go up 5-0.
The Mustangs got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, trimming the lead to 5-1.
The Ridge View softball team took on Storm Lake St. Mary’s last week, at the Panthers’ home field in Storm Lake.
The Raptors struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Panthers responded by plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, to reclaim a 2-1 advantage.
