In Partnership with the National Association of Counties, Ida County has installed a flag retirement box, at no cost to the county , at the Ida County Courthouse, 401 Moorehead St., Ida Grove, located on the main floor of the Annex in the Administration Building.
“Many of our residents are unsure how to care for the U.S. flag when it becomes worn out or torn,” said ISAC President Richard Crouch who serves as a Supervisor in Mills County, Iowa. “This program provides a much needed service to all county residents and reminds them that counties matter.”
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met in special session on Monday, March 4 at the Ida County courthouse. Board members in attendance were Chair Raymond Drey, Creston Schubert, and Rhett Leonard. A phone conference was held with Heidi Kuhl, a Northland Securities Consultant, with regard to Resolution 22-8, Approving a Bond Purchase Agreement for the sale of General Obligation Urban Renewal Bonds, Series 2022A in the amount of $9,680,000.
Anne Petersen, who has owned and operated the Midwest Deli and Grill in Holstein with her husband, David, for 33 years, has recently authored two fictional books. The first book, “Bridges: Life in a Small Town,” centers around the main character, Emma, who owns the local bakery.
Devlun Whiteing, of Ida Grove, has taken out papers for the Ida County Board of Supervisors race.
The Ida Grove mayor is a resident of District 3, which with redistricting includes the City of Ida Grove, all of Corwin Township and part of Grant Township with its sections one to six with electors north of 290th Street.
Supervisor Rhett Leonard has announced he will not seek re-election. Republican and Democratic candidates need 100 signatures.
Sioux Valley Family Health has announced Jenni Sohm, ARNP is joining the clinic.
She started nursing at WITCC and completed her LPN in 2007 and her RN in 2008. Sohm obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa and her Master’s and Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from Morningside College.
She started as unit secretary and EMT at Horn Memorial Hospital since 2006 and became an instructor/associate professor for St. Luke’s College until 2021.
Ida County Public Safety and Communications Commission members were briefed on the impact of inflation raging nationwide and in Ida County as Ida County Sheriff Wade Harriman outlined a pay boost.
Supervisors for Ida County recently agreed to amend a previous wage boost of 3.25 percent up to 4.5 percent, said Harriman.
The move helps to soften inflation currently hitting, said Harriman.
A tough hiring situation hitting nationally and across Iowa is also impacting school districts as they seek to find substitutes.
During the Feb. 21 meeting of the Northwest Area Education board, Julie Lohr recommended offering professional development that would be flexible as a way of helping districts balance that professional development with keeping teachers in the classroom as much as possible.
That mitigates the need for substitutes, a tenuous situation currently as a hiring dearth across the board also affects schools.
