A final schedule is set for Heritage Days with several days of fun for the community.
Things will kick off Thursday, June 23 with daytime activities led by the Ida Grove Public Library hosting story time and a stuffed animal sleepover drop-off beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Farmers Market and a grill out to officially get things going.
Crowning of Lil Miss as well as Mister Heritage Days will take place at Godbersen Park at 6:30 p.m. with a free moving following at 7 p.m. at the King Theatre.
The Ida Area Farmers’ Market is beginning its eighth season June 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the City Park. The market will run beginning June 23 through Sept. 30.
Kenny Tietsort will once again be at the market with lots of produce for customers to enjoy.
Grote’s Goodies will join the market again this summer with her glass, wood and clay custom made jewelry. Sunshine and Flora will be at the market with fresh cut flower arrangements.
A storm that slammed into northwest Iowa ahead of Memorial Day caused quite a bit of damage with a bit of something unique to Holstein among the impacts, but the community is working to put things right.
The late May storm damaged buildings and tipped a semi just off of Highway 20, but perhaps its biggest impact was to Holstein’s Avenue of Flags.
“The Avenue of Flags started 13 years ago and represented men and women who had connections to Holstein,” said Alex Conover, a member of Holstein’s Chamber of Commerce.
Roughly, 500 flags were part of the Avenue of Flags.
Holstein will see the return of a signature celebration as Kinderfest returns.
Set for June 16 – 18, Kinderfest will have a superhero theme for the kiddos this time around.
The fun kicks off Thursday, June 16 with “Old Fashioned Night” set for 5 to 9 p.m. at Cornerhaus 101 with a free meal at 6 p.m. over at the Holstein State Theatre and a free movie following there as well at 7 p.m.
Also as an option, at the same time trivia will be on tap at Cobblestone Inn & Suites.
Farm Bureau Financial Services (FBFS) of Ida County, the area leader in insurance and wealth management, has announced changes to the Ida County Farm Bureau landscape. Alex Conover, former Sales Associate for Agent Denise Van Dusen has been selected to transition into a New Agent role in Ida County.
Area voters will head to the polls June 7 as Iowa’s Primary Election takes place.
The polls open at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m.
Ahead of the vote, the Ida County Courier and Holstein Advance reached out to candidates and offered them a chance to introduce themselves to voters.
All candidates were offered the same list of questions including a chance to explain why they were running, what they view as the top issues defining the race and what the first action he or she would take if elected.
An Ida County mental health provider recently celebrated a new location in Ida Grove. Plains Area Mental Health moved earlier this year from its former location in Ida Grove in the 700 block of East 2nd Street to 101 2nd St.
Now settled in, the office is open for business in the new location.
Ribbon cutting took place May 23 with chamber members and staff gathering for the event.
The Ida Grove office is one of 15 locations throughout northwest Iowa operated by Plains Area Mental Health, which was founded in 1972.
Area counties were able to best the state’s jobs numbers as Iowa declined to three percent unemployment, led by Plymouth County’s 1.4 percent, 1.6 percent ahead of the state.
Iowa’s rate of three percent is an improvement from 3.3 percent the month before and down from 4.5 percent from a year ago as lockdown’s impacts continue to dissipate.
Ridge View High School seniors were recognized with numerous scholarships and awards during senior honors night on Tuesday, May 17. The following scholarships and awards were handed out:
