The Horn Memorial Hospital had a Fabulous 50s gala on November 4, 2022 at the Skate Palace. The whole event was decked out in the 50s theme. Tables were decorated by community members and boy were they ever fabulous! There were great auction items for a silent auction,entertainment to start by Neil Anders, a Heads and Tails Game with prize money, and a live auction followed by a performance from Richie Lee and the Fabulous 50s.
The Ida County Conference Board met in an adjourned session. In attendance were Supervisors Raymond Drey, Creston Schubert and Rhett Leonard; MayorsDevlun Whiteing, Gary Chase and Charles Pierce; and Mel Obink, GAAP Solutions; as well as Assessor Administrative Assistant Shelby Ellis and Auditor/Assessor Lorna Steenbock.
Mel Obink reported that an Assessor and an Appraiser from the same county are interested in the positions at Ida County. They are planning to visit Ida County on the 25th of October and will notify the County or MeI of their intentions.
A resident of Odebolt has joined the staff at the Ida County Courier and Holstein Advance. “This job became available and it is just perfect,” she said.
Mary Morgan will be taking on the position of News Writer for Mid-America Publishing in Ida Grove. Mary has an extensive background in writing.
Sen Charles Grassley was increasingly confident as he addressed members of the media with the final days of a contentious midterm election - including a battle for his own seat - in front of voters and outlined what he wants to see with a GOP win.
Polls are growing more in favor of a GOP win in a number of races both in Iowa and across the country, with Grassley himself seeing a previously close race with contender Mike Franken turning into a comfortable 11-point lead for the incumbent senator.
Grassley was upbeat and spoke about a number of areas the party is eyeing.
Another bump in unemployment numbers took place with Iowa rising an additional .1 percent last month while northwest Iowa numbers defied the state average and plunged.
Unemployment climbed to 2.7 percent for September, still ahead of 4.1 percent last year but the second straight month of growth as inflation fears grow.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the courthouse. Board members in attendance were Chair Raymond Drey, Creston Schubert, and Rhett Leonard. Assistant Engineer Colin Ryan and Road Foreman Jim Peters presented salary certifications for Brandon Cooper in the amount of $23.49 per hour effective October 24, and Brandyn Niemeyer in the amount of $23.49 per hour effective Oct. 25. Their salaries will be $24.99 effective Oct. 31. The Board approved those employees and salaries.
Area communities have set times for trick or treating on Monday, Oct. 31.
Ida Grove
St. Paul Lutheran Church will host their annual “Trunk or Treat” on Sunday from 3-5. The Ida Grove Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Trick or Treat Kickoff at 5:30 p.m. in Godbersen Park. The event will feature a safety talk by Sheriff Wade Harriman, and Trick or Treat bags for all kids. Free popcorn and a treat are sponsored by the Ida County Farm Bureau.
A merger of parishes in the Diocese of Sioux City will see 13 parishes become just five.
The announcement was made public Thursday by the diocese as Bishop Walker Nickless announced parishes from Denison to Ida Grove to Boone and Madrid would be impacted.
