HOLSTEIN - James A. Werner, 88, of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Bob Lewis officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.

James A. Werner was born Jan. 14, 1935, at his home in Griggs Township, Ida County, Iowa to Arnold and Esther (Bergmann) Werner. He was a graduate of Holstein High School in 1953 and served 11 years in the Army National Guard.

Jim was united in marriage to Kay Albertsen on Feb. 10, 1957, in Battle Creek, Iowa. They raised their four children on their farm north of Holstein.

He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed tinkering in his shop. In addition to farming, he loved his job of delivering RVs to customers, a job that took him to a majority of the United States. In his free time, he enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors and loved fishing in Canada and the 20 winters that they spent in Florida. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein. Jim served as Vice President of Farm Bureau and on the Ida County Fair Board for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Kay of Holstein; daughters, Kim Werner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Karen (Greg) Brunelle of Holstein; son, Kent (Nancy) Werner of Orange City, Iowa; grandchildren, Justin (Natali) Werner of Auburndale, Florida, Tana (Manny) Diaz of Lakeland, Florida and Viktor Brunelle of Holstein, and great-grandchildren, Damion, Olivia, and Jacob Diaz. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Deborah Werner of Auburndale, Florida; sister, Dorothy Olson of Cherokee, Iowa and brother, John (Connie) Werner of Holstein.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Esther and his son, Kris in 2016. Online condolences can be made at nicklasdjensenfh.com.
