1950 – 2024

 

ROCKWELL CITY - Gordon R. Reiss, 74, of Rockwell City passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024 at Odebolt Specialty Care in Odebolt.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City with military rites provided by Amvets Post #41 and the United States Army Honor Guard. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Laufersweiler’s Palmer-Swank Funeral Home is serving the family.

Gordon Robert Reiss was born May 8, 1950 in Pickstown, South Dakota. He graduated from Galva-Holstein High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Buena Vista University. He enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1969, served in Korea and was honorably discharged Sept. 8, 1975. From 1970 to 1978, Gordon was a Lieutenant for the Storm Lake Police Department. He also owned and operated a motorcycle shop for a number of years. In June 1995, he began working for the Department of Corrections in South Dakota. He then moved to work at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility and then the Rockwell City Correctional Facility where he retired May 22, 2010. Gordon enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to John Denver’s music, fishing and camping. 

Gordon is survived by his sons, Aaron (Ashley) Reiss of Ida Grove and Adam (Bethany) Reiss of Rockwell City; grandchildren, Arial Reiss, Zaniel Reiss, Reagon Reiss, Aeon Reiss, Eve Reiss, Taylor (Katie) Reiss, Caleb Reiss (Cassie) and Seth Reiss; great-grandchildren, Savannah Reiss, Eleanor Reiss, and Gael Guerrero; brother, Charles Reiss of Holstein; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geraldine (Welling) Reiss; brothers, Kevin and Brian Reiss; and sister, Gloria Nelson.

 

Services: Friday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m., Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Rockwell City

Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City
