Dorothy Bauer
1934 – 2025
HOLSTEIN - Dorothy Bauer, 91, of Holstein, passed away peacefully at Accura Healthcare of Aurelia with family by her side on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025. Per Dorothy’s request, there will be no services. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy Lavonne Bauer was born on Feb. 5, 1934, to Harold “Harry” and Velma Lange. One of six children, her childhood days were spent in Sutherland. She graduated from Sutherland High School in 1952.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Harry Christian Bauer, Jr. on Sept. 12, 1954. Shortly after, she and Harry relocated to Bellflower, California to begin their life together. Harry would work in a local drug store and Dorothy stayed home where they would start a family. They gave birth to their first son, Michael in January of 1958. Michael was followed by David Edward in April of 1960. Shortly after David was born, they decided they wanted to raise a family in Harry’s hometown of Holstein. It was there that their third son, Kevin, was born in December 1963.
Aside from raising their children, Dorothy worked at the local library, theater, and filled in at Sorensen Produce. When she wasn’t tending to her family or working, Dorothy and Harry loved to explore the country on their motorcycle. They hit all 48 contiguous states throughout their life together. Dorothy had many hobbies. She loved knitting, crocheting, puzzles, reading, gardening, and baking. She also liked to experiment while baking and cooking and came up with some interesting recipes. Among them were black bean brownies, taco salad mac and cheese, and putting canned spaghetti in her homemade chili.
Dorothy’s greatest joy, however, was spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David of Holstein; her granddaughter, Kelsey (Adam) Struck of Holstein, along with their children Jackson, Noah, Avery, and Presley; grandson, Tyler Bauer, of Holstein, grandson, John Bauer, granddaughter Tiff Ebert, and brother Gerald (Phyllis) Lange of Sutherland, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, son Kevin Bauer, son Michael Bauer, sister Mary Draper, sister Phyllis Anderson, brother Duane Lange, and sister Janice Thomas.
