Raptor softball team posts 5-2 record, earns state ranking

The Ridge View softball team posted a 5-2 mark in a seven game span last week. The Raptors improved to 12-5 overall prior to Friday’s game at MV-A-O/CO-U. As of last Thursday, Ridge View was on top of the conference standings with a 9-1 record. West Monona was second at 8-2.

Two of Ridge View’s wins were over state ranked teams, which helped the Raptors garner the number 14 spot in the class 1A state rankings compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released June 13.

Ridge View defeated state ranked Westwood 4-3 June 7 in Galva. The Rebels went into the game ranked ninth in the state in class 1A.

“The coaches were very happy with the effort against a quality opponent.  We had to play all seven innings and make plays throughout the game and we did.  Our defense was very good,” said Raptor coach Scott Phelps.
