Paul Higgins


MASON CITY – Services for Paul Higgins, 53, of Mason City and formerly of Galva were Sept. 9, 2020, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein. Msgr. Kenneth Seifried officiated.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, rural Holstein. Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee assisted with arrangements.

Paul died Sept. 5, 2020, at his Mason City home.

John Paul Higgins, son of John and Diane (Bengford) Higgins, was born Oct. 20, 1966, in Cherokee.

His childhood years were spent on the family farm near Galva. He attended school and graduated from Galva-Holstein High School in 1986. Paul then attended mechanic school in Omaha.

John moved to Des Moines and worked as a mechanic for Firestone. He later moved back to Galva to help take care of his mother as her health declined.

Over the next few years, Paul worked at various jobs in the area before moving to Mason City, where he worked as a crop adjuster.

Paul was as avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and high school and college football games. He was a life-long Buffalo Bills’ fan. He also enjoyed farm and equipment sales. Most of all, Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his father, John W. Higgins of Spencer, and one brother and wife, Jim and Tammy Higgins of Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Diane Higgins; a sister, Catherine Higgins; a brother, Timothy Higgins; and his grandparents: Edmund and Phyllis Bengford, and Charles and Linnie Higgins.
