Newborns sporting red hats for a cause

Cherokee Regional Medical Center, in conjunction with the American Heart Association, The Children’s Heart Foundation and hospitals across the state recently participated in the third year of Iowa’s Little Hats, Big Hearts initiative.

Each year, the program outfit’s newborns with knitted red caps during Heart Month in February. The goal is to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans and congenital heart defects, a condition that affects one in every 110 babies born in the U.S. All babies born at CRMC and other participating hospitals during February received a hat.
