Legion posts alter plans to commemorate Memorial Day

Holstein and Galva American Legion Posts are altering their plans to commemorate Memorial Day this year due to COVID-19.
The Holstein American Legion will commemorate Memorial Day with a private ceremony for Legion members who want to attend on Monday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at the cemetery. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the Legion’s Facebook page, starting at 10 a.m.
The Legion will raise its Avenue of Flags this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and lower the flags Tuesday, May 26, at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers who feel they are able to help are welcome.
Galva’s American Legion annual Memorial Day service is cancelled. However, the Avenue of the Flags at the cemetery will be raised. Flags will go up, Saturday, May 23, and will be removed the evening of Monday, May 25.
Two flags will be added to the Avenue of Flags, in memory of France Wanberg and Beryl Schubert. An official flag dedication ceremony might be held on July 4.
