Home Grown Artist Finds Her Way Back

Saturday morning was the first day Art Social by RJ Ortner was open to the public since covid happened. Artist Mary Ortner and her niece Elizabeth Ortner were on hand to show the beautiful new art work of wall sculptures and sitting sculptures she had recently completed.

The gallery and art studio, 204 E. 2nd St., Holstein, Iowa,  started out as a quaint little building that had housed a beauty shop and a two bedroom apartment.  Elizabeth purchased the building in 2018. Being an architect, Elizabeth designed and converted the building into an art studio/gallery on one side and a cozy little apartment for Mary on the other side. The building’s renovations were completed in 2019. Mary moved into her apartment and Art Social by RJ Ortner was opened. The gallery was dedicated to Mary’s brother and Elizabeth’s father, Richard John Ortner.
