HCT Summer Theatre Camp breaks 10th leg

It may not seem that long ago, but 2010 was a year of happenings. “The Walking Dead” hit the small screen, Lady Gaga wore a meat dress to the MTV Video Music Awards and Holstein Community Theatre sponsored its first summer theatre camp.

According to Joyce Galvin of Holstein, the first camp was held in the Galva-Holstein High School gym. Second through sixth graders performed five, one-act plays under seven directors. Every year, the camp is staffed by adult and high school volunteers, some of whom participated in the camp themselves.

The week-long camp has since moved to the Rosemary Clausen Center for the Performing Arts in Holstein and is now offered to second through eighth graders. Camp-goers get the “full theatre experience” by using microphones, costumes and make-up during their performances.
