Edward Lee Teghtmeyer

LANSING, MICH. - Services for Edward Lee Teghtmeyer, 77, of Lansing, Mich., will be at a later date at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Odebolt.

Arrangements are by Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel, at Lansing, Mich.

He died gently at home, in the arms of family, July 26, 2020.

Ed was born Jan. 27, 1943, in Ida County and grew up as a rural Iowa farm boy, youngest of six children. He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1960.

He attended Iowa State University as a member of the R.O.T.C program and competed on the ISU varsity track and field team. He graduated with a B.S. in civil engineering in 1964 and was forever a devoted ISU alum.

He served his U.S. Army term at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Rock Island, Ill. While there, taking a math course at the Rock Island Arsenal, he met his future bride, Anne Blanford.

They married in 1967 and raised two daughters. Ed coached their softball teams, took them canoeing and fishing, and, every summer, drove them around the country to visit family, friends and many national parks.

Ed worked in many civil engineering and public works capacities, with job sites and homes located in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Wyoming and many other states, wherever the job sent him.

In 1979, he began a long career with Neosho Construction, based in Council Grove, Kan. Later, he worked with R. D. Long Construction out of Kansas City, Mo.

He completed his working career as the Morris County road and bridges’ supervisor for Morris County, Kan., and retired in 2009.

He and Anne then moved to Lansing, Mich., to be near their grandsons. Ed took pleasure in his vegetable garden, reading novels, reading the daily newspaper and its puzzles, their many kitty-cats, spending time with Anne and, of course, any and all Iowa State University athletic games that were televised or streamed through the Internet.

Ed will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, the love of his life, (Ellen) Anne (Blanford); his daughter, Dr. Lori (Michael) Coughlin, D.V.M., of Berwyn, Ill.; his daughter, Suzanne Teghtmeyer, MLIS; and two grandsons: Elliot and Leo of Lansing, Mich.

He also is survived by his sister, Elaine (Dwayne, deceased) Bubke; a brother, Leo H. (Keo) Teghtmeyer Jr.; and dozens of loved nieces, nephews and their families.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Harold Sr. and Hertha (Witte) Teghtmeyer of Arthur and Odebolt; and his siblings: Phyllis (Ken) Parker; Viola (Emmett Petersen and Roy Nielsen); and Pauline (Robert) Feddersen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Capital Area Humane Society of Lansing, Mich., or Lansing Food Bank of Lansing, Mich.
