Council endorses first reading of ordinances increasing utilities

The Holstein City Council tabled action on a preconstruction agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for reconfiguration of Highway 59 from four to three lanes through the Holstein during their regular meeting April 1.

Mayor Connie Ludvigson introduced the preconstruction agreement for the reconfiguration of Highway 59 from four-lane to three-lane through Holstein stating that it was the sole decision of the council to leave Highway 59 the same or to decide to go with the new three-lane configuration. There have been two public informational meetings where the second was better attended than the first.

Councilmember Joel Wellendorf discussed his concerns with the four- to three-lane option and felt the consensus at the informational meetings was to leave Highway 59 as it currently is. Councilmember Mary Gross felt that the decision should be tabled until full council was in attendance. The topic was discussed and acted on at a special meeting April 8.

The council discussed adding an entrance light at the intersection of German Avenue and South Kiel Street off of Highway 20.
